From H-1 Eastbound, take the Punchbowl exit. The Federal Building is on the corner of Halekauwila and Punchbowl.

The Honolulu Passport Agency serves U.S. residents on the Hawaiian Islands who need to obtain their international travel documents within a short period of time. Usually, applicants who visit this facility need to request an expedited passport because they have plans to travel outside of the country within the next three weeks. In many instances, individuals urgently need their passports due to family emergencies or illnesses abroad that require them to leave the country on short notice.

However, keep in mind that not all travelers who plan on going abroad need to visit a US passport agency to receive their documents. In fact, only a limited number of potential applicants are required to apply at these facilities. If you want to find out if you could be an applicant who needs to get a US passport expedited at one of these locations, read the sections below.

How is a passport office different from a passport agency?

Applicants may confuse the US passport office with the federal passport agency when they are preparing to apply for their identification cards and books. However, these two facilities are not the same, and they service visitors who are in different circumstances. For example, individuals who are not traveling within the month and want to submit their passport application for the first time must apply at an office. This same rule applies for children. Additionally, there are various passport office locations available throughout the country, whereas there are only 27 passport agencies.

When deciding if you should apply for a passport at the agency or the office, remember to take into account how quickly you plan on traveling. If you need a passport because you are traveling within the next two weeks or a visa for travel within the month, apply at the agency. However, if your travel plans are in the distant future, you can apply at the passport office. In any case, remember that you can still choose to request the expedited passport service when you apply at an office.

How do I schedule an appointment at a US passport agency?

Applicants who wish to apply for travel documents at the Honolulu Passport Agency must schedule appointments before they plan on speaking with representatives at this location. This rule is true regardless of which acceptance facility individuals choose to submit their requests through. In any case, there are two methods that applicants can use to request appointments at a US passport agency. These include:

  • Calling the National Passport Information Center (NPIC): Individuals can schedule a passport agency appointment by calling the NPIC.
  • Scheduling an appointment online: Applicants can schedule appointments at their nearest US passport agency by choosing meeting times online.
